About the conference

Dear Colleagues,

30 years ago, in 1995, Nancy hosted the second European workshop on thermoelectricity, bringing together around 50 researchers and marking an early milestone in the city’s contribution to the field. A decade later, 130 researchers gathered in Nancy for the 5th European Conference on Thermoelectrics, further cementing its reputation within the thermoelectric research community in France, initially led by Pr. Stanislas and Hubert Scherrer. Since that time, our community has expanded significantly, driving remarkable progress in thermoelectrics.

20 years later, we are happy to welcome you back in Nancy for the 21st European Conference on Thermoelectrics from Monday 8th to Friday 12th September 2025. The conference will be held under the auspices of the Institut Jean Lamour and the Université de Lorraine in cooperation with the Propuls company.

ECT2025 will be a forum for discussions of the latest scientific ideas and discoveries in our field, along with novel devices and practical applications developed over the last years. The conference will cover all scientific aspects from theory to new materials, devices and applications, through fundamental developments in the physics and chemistry of state-of-the-art and emerging thermoelectric materials.

We cordially invite you to the former capital of the Polish Lorraine dukes, a beautiful and vibrant city of the Region Grand Est in France where Art Nouveau got its start thanks to internationally renowned artists such as Emile Gallé (glasswork), Louis Majorelle or the famous Daum crystal makers. Nancy and its Stanislas place will welcome you not only with its historical center and old town founded in the 11th century, but also with its modern infrastructure. The congress center Prouvé is located near the station in the heart of Nancy, making most of the must-see places easily accessible on foot.

We hope you will enjoy the conference and our beautiful city of Nancy and look forward to seeing you!

Christophe Candolfi and Bertrand Lenoir (Université de Lorraine, France) – chairmen

Scientific themes

The following topics will be covered during the conference:

Thermoelectric Materials & Processing

Chalcogenides, full and half–Heuslers, Zintls, silicides, sulfides, organic & hybrid materials, oxides… in the form of bulks, thin films or nanostructured.

Theory & Modelling

First-principles-based modelling and prediction of thermoelectric materials and/or modelling and design of thermoelectric devices, artificial intelligence tools for accelerating the discovery of novel compounds.

Measurements & Characterizations

Advanced characterization techniques of thermoelectric materials and devices, standardization of measurement techniques.

Thermoelectric Devices & Applications

Thermal management, transverse thermoelectric effects, interface effects…

Emerging Topics

cooling, power generation, sensors, waste heat recovery in industry…

This conference will be also opened to other relevant topics.

The conference will offer the opportunity to present the development of state-of-the-art and new thermoelectric materials, theoretical modelling of their physical properties, integration of optimized materials into devices and development of cooling and power generation applications. The conference will consist of scientific sessions with plenary, invited talks and oral communications and two poster sessions.
